Today I'm posting a page I put together for my oldest son's scrapbook. He's an athlete...will play ANY sport for hours on end. It was for him that I made the basketball bookmark a few weeks ago. But he also LOVES to read. Well, when I saw that the ladies over at These Are a Few of My Favorite Things are hosting a challenge this week about favorite pastimes, this was the first one that came to mind. My son, now 11, can be in a conversation with you one minute then have his head in a book mid-sentence. I think I mentioned that he's been known to read while brushing his teeth and often tries to sneak a book on his lap during meals and at school during lectures. I'm not complaining....I love to read too and I know that I'm lucky he enjoys it so much. :-) I need to find time to read more myself!
The photos are various ones I've taken over the past few years, usually while we were vacationing. Don't miss the photo of my son's bedside table!! :-0 My layout is based on a recent sketch at Sketch Inspiration. It was perfect for all of these photos. Suzy at Scrap With Suzy used the sketch to make a SUPER adorable little leprechaun layout...be sure to check it out!! I thought the title "A Great Escape" was appropriate for a page about a love for reading. :-) I cut the book from Locker Talk (I'd forgotten about so many of the wonderful images on this cartridge) and the word 'Escape' from Gypsy Wanderings, both with all the layers. I was excited to find the blue paper with the tiny script in my stash...it too worked so well on this page. The two small metal brads say "discover" and "dreams". Simple, but effective!
Recipe
Argyle patterned paper from Momenta "All Through the Year" stack
Blue 'script' patterned paper from My Mind's Eye "everyday tango" stack
All cardstock from Recollections
Book cut from Locker Talk
"Escape" and top note shape cut from Gypsy Wanderings
EK Success puffy black dimensional letters
Recollections dimensionals to pop up the book
Black Creative Memories marker for stitching/doodling/journaling
I'm entering this page into four challenges:
Die Cuttin' Divas: Challenge #6 - Unused and unloved! - Create any project with a cartridge you've never or rarely used and use a cut that you've never used. I haven't used Locker Talk in ages...and I've never used the book cut.
Lasting Memories: Recipe Time - Use (1) die-cut, (2) brads and (3) layers on your layout.
These Are a Few of My Favorite Things - These Are a Few of My Favorite Pastimes - Create anything that has to do with your favorite pastime.
Wacky Wednesday #31 - Manly Challenge - Create anything, as long as it's for a guy.
Enjoy the weekend!

What a fantastic layout. I just love it and the fact that your 11 yo loves to read even better. I have an 11 yo that doesn't like to read, maybe we can get them together. Good luck with the challenges!!
